Human Security

What is Human Security

Human Security in its broadest concept refers to the relative safety of people throughout the world from poverty, disease, starvation, conflict, persecution and discrimination.

Governments legitimately acting in their country’s national interests have traditionally seen national security policy as the protection of the nation from external threats.

Human security by contrast focuses on the protection of the individual from threats that transcend state sovereignty.

Global level human security is an issue beyond the capacity of any single government to successfully address. Only through cooperation with civil society can threats to this security be addressed world wide. World Assist is founded upon this spirit of cooperation and protection of the individual.

By working with communities through a ‘bottom up’ strategy World Assist can complement governments’ ‘top down’ efforts to protect people in areas of health, food, economic, environmental, community, political and personal security.
